What kinds of questions parents are asking when they drop their child off at a friend's house
At recent fall events, members of iParentnetwork were out meeting and greeting members of each of the three communities. We surveyed parents on a number of questions, one of which was this question: "What kinds of questions do you ask when you drop your child off at a friend's house?"
We were pleased to report that parents are asking questions and even more pleased at the variety of questions parents were posing. We thought it would be helpful to post the responses so all parents could see what others are asking...
It's really important for teens especially to know that you still care about their safety and it is during this transition to adulthood when most situations occur. And they occur when no parent is at home (of course). Just knowing that there is a parent at home is often enough to get a teen to reconsider participating in risky behaviors.
Here are the questions. Anyone have any others they'd like to add to this list?
When you drop your kid(s) off at a friend’s house what questions do you ask the other parent?
- Will you be home?
- What will they be doing on website?
- Are you supervising the party? How long will you be here?
- Alcohol?
- Will you be awake during the whole party?
- I stay with her she’s two
- How many adults will be there?
- Is there going to be alcohol here?
- Is there anyone there for supervision?
- Mostly goes to well know friends.
- Is parent going to be home?

- I don’t just drop off. I get out and talk to the parents.
- Are they going to be home? How much adult supervision?
- Will you be home and what will be happening?
- Do you have guns in your house?
- I do not drop them off unless I’ve met the parents and been inside the house.
- Will you be home the whole time?
- I make sure to meet my daughter’s boyfriends.
- I’m nosey. I need to meet them and see their home.
- I never drop my kids off at someone’s house.
- I need to meet the parents first.
