I hope all of you are checking out the bookmarks section of this web site. I just posted a great article from the NY Times about the cost of raising an autistic child. Did you know that it costs parents $72K on average for each autisic child? Many of the recommended treatments are not covered by insurance. How do parents afford this? Especially when time is of extreme importance as early treatment of autism yields the best results. Any discussion of health care reform ought to include the treatment of autism, when 1 in 20 boys are diagnosed each year with this disorder. If we don't get them treatment when they are young, we'll end up supporting them when they are older at a much higher cost.
What do you think about the inclusion of treatment for autism as part of health care reform? Is it a good idea or bad? I'd love to hear what you all think.
In the meantime, make sure you check out the article in the bookmarks section....and poke around. There is TONS of great information that people have been posting here.
