It's critical in those early years to TALK TALK TALK
A study (http://tinyurl.com/ycas4lk) just came out that has shown the dark side of all this new technology on our little ones. Critical language development is formed in those first few years and by and large it is formed by parents talking to their babies and toddlers and engaging with them and their new world.
What this study has found is that too often nannies and new moms are on their cell phones, FB and ...
Students learn about underage drinking by studying the science behind it
Students in Boston, using a pilot program developed by the National Institutes for Health in conjunction with scientists from Boston University, study the effects that drinking have on mice. Studying this in this way seems to have had an impact on the way teens look at alcohol consumption. Watch the video to learn more about this.
Advice for parents of younger kids
This is a great video for parents of younger kids. It's a video put out by yahoo that profiles a conversation between three moms along the subject of "what I'd tell parents of younger kids....or I wish I had know this when my kids were young! I highly recommend watching this short video.
President Obamas Message to kids
Greetings,
I've read through President Obama’s back to school message three times now. I'm still having a hard time seeing why someone would not want their child to hear this awe-inspiring message. It is filled with words of encouragement to do good in all areas of ones life not just school. As any good presenter, he uses personal stories to try to connect with the students letting them know that he struggled too. It ...

Gratitude for the children in our lives is one way to offset worry, negativity and lack of appreciations. Each family member thrives on being understood, valued and recognized. This is my family experience and is an issue often explored in communication seminars.
How do we speak to other adults? How does this change when we speak to our children? When attunement (Daniel Stern) is in the zone so to speak, there ...
So exactly who is behind the iParentnetwork?
A question came in through our anonymous question tool asking if the steering committee members behind iParentnetwork were volunteering their time.
iParentnetwork was the brainchild of a contingent of volunteer parents, community members and professionals in our tri town area. When we learned about how our kids were participating in risky behaviors, such as underage drinking, at substantially higher rates than kids in other parts of the state, we wanted to figure out a way ...

I had 2 teens at EO Smith High School in the '90's who also transferred to private ski high schools in Vermont. Specifically Vermont Academy and the Stratton Mountain School.
Before transferring, they had both been members of the UConn Frogs (local State wide competitive swim team, now called the UConn Huskies). This is how I thought I'd introduce my interest in blogging about the importance of communication and parental awareness on how our relationship ...
Not all parental monitoring software is alike
Wow. It seems as if not all parental monitoring software is alike. Two of the leading brands -- brands rated as tops by trusted source C-net - have been found to be mining kids chats and posts for information so they can tailor their marketing better.
Personally, I'm in favor of open dns as a way to safely monitor our kid's activities online. It not only gives you flexibility in monitoring your kids ...
