Senior Dog Gone Missing...
If folks could keep their eyes peeled for a golden-lab-shepherd cross (with upright ears), that would be much appreciated. "Squinty" (Squinny) went missing sometime today. She's deaf and very old, and was last seen in the vincinity of Westford Road north of the intersection of Iron Mine and Oakes. Be sure to check in your yard - in sheds and any interesting-smelling places. She's been known to get herself stuck before seeking out yummies. :)
Let me know if you see her. She's friendly, and could probably be easily persuaded to come along with you with a treat or a friendly greeting.

Cafeteria News - MyNutriKids.com
Wow...the Cafeteria is going mondo high tech come October 27th (Tuesday)! We can now prepay for our kids' lunches via the interface at https://myNutriKids.com (a subpage of http://www.nutrikids.com ).
I got a letter in the mail today with my kid's 4 digit ID code. What I had to do was make an account for myself, in my name, and then add her as one of my kids. So, don't make the account in your kid's name -- use your own, and then you can sub-link all your kids to your name.
One thing, though -- my kid's balance didn't come up after I linked her. I'm sure they're still entering in the data. Hopefully that'll be done by Tuesday.
The great thing -- It works with PayPal! No more sending a check in hoping it makes it to the right place. Better yet, no more sending in cash, hoping that a note with "Your kid bought everyone ice cream today" doesn't come home. :)
Tuesday should be plenty interesting...

Dee's Musings on the Ashford PTO Stuff Coming Up!
TONIGHT: October 5th - PTO meeting in the school library at 7:00pm. The opening act will be Charro, followed by the comedy stylings of Rich Little. No..wait. That's episode 23 of 'The Love Boat'. PTO meetings...Love Boat. I get them mixed up in my head. In any case, I'll see you on the Toledo Deck...or...maybe in the Library at Ashford School. Childcare is usually provided...I'm guessing that's the case here too. (If you don't know who Charro or Rich Little are, or what the Love Boat is...You're young and I'm officially old. :) )
October 9th -- The big annual Ice Cream Social is going to have two seatings. The first one is at 6:30 to 7:15 and the second one is 7:30 to 8:15. The sundaes are $2.75 each, and that includes a raffle ticket. Everyone's welcome! (Children must be accompanied by an adult.) Mmm...Only something like 14 WeightWatchers points per sundae! I can totally afford that. Oh, to be a kid again...
Fall Fundraiser: There's still time to get your order sheets in. We have a PTO meeting on October 5th and I'm sure you could turn the order forms in there. Remember to turn in both copies of your order form...you'll get one back with the orders. Then you can frame it, or perhaps use it to make a jaunty paper hat!
The Great Pumpkins Haloween Party! (Actually, I think this might also be a Rec Dept thing...but the PTO probably helps out.) On Friday, Oct 30th from 5:30 to 7:30, kids up to Grade 6 are invited to Ashford School for some Halloween fun. Jr. High Goblin help is needed for this event, so call Melissa McDonough at 429-6419 if you know a Jr. high monster who would like some community service street cred, yo.
Remember: October 30th is a Half Day, and there's no school on the 12th or 13th (Columbus Day, and the less popular but equally celebrated 'Day After Columbus Day') Wait...no, it's Professional Development Day. Still, I'm going to be putting up my 'Day After Columbus Day' Tree anyway, in hopes that the Day After Columbus Day Fairy brings me the traditional five pound bag of coffee beans. I've been very good this year.
-Dee (off to find five pounds of coffee...)
Just a Hello There!
Hi Fellow Ashfordians!
I figured I'd try my hand at making a group on here. Since I do the PTO calendar, I can announce various events and reminders. The first PTO event going on is the Teacher Appreciation Breakfast on August 25th.
Also, this spring the Jamboree looms large. If you want to volunteer or do a project for the Jamboree, it would be a huge help.
Hmm...what else? Dang. I had all these things I was going to ask as I was driving in my car, and then I get to the keyboard and my mind goes blank. D'oh.
Well, say a 'Hi', or don't. :) I'll keep babbling in here either way.

I'm a single parent
Hello, I am a single parent of two children in the Ashford area. My son is 12 and my daughter is 7. When I first moved to town, I felt very awkward because it seemed everyone here was married/together. I felt like the odd person out. With the lack of daycare, half day kindergarten, and no summer camp, it didn't seem like they offered much for single parents that worked. That was 10 years ago, and not a lot has changed, except that I've met many people in the same boat as me! I've met many friendly people that have helped me out tremendously. When my daughter was in 1/2 day kindegarten, my neighbor would watch her in the morning for me, then she'd go to school, then a daycare in Willington would pick her up and bring her to daycare. When I got out of work, I'd pick her up from there. With out help it would have been impossible to work. There was no daycare for before and after school that I had found, they could only transport once a day. I don't have anything against married people, they have been most of my friends that have helped me out so much, the problem I've had is with the town not have the services available for us single people. Anyone else had similar problems?
